The medical student program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is designed to provide students with firm background in the essentials of women’s health. The educational objectives are set forth by the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO). Through a combination of didactic instruction and supervised clinical experience, students acquire the relevant clinical skills of history taking and physical examination and learn reproductive physiology from infancy to the postmenopausal period; antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum obstetric care; and recognition and management of various gynecologic disorders. Third-year students work in ambulatory clinics and on inpatient services during a four-week core clerkship. Greater depth of experience is provided by elective clerkships during the fourth year that emphasize subspecialties such as maternal/fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic oncology, and reproductive health.
