<p>Lecture, four hours; discussion, one hour. Examination of cultural, religious, and racial differences in early modern world of Italy, America, Africa, and Ottoman Empire. Materials include films, artworks, Dante’s <cite>Divine Comedy</cite>, Qur’an, Arab chronicles of Crusades, travel logs and letters of Christopher Columbus, Italian Renaissance epic poems, and anticolonial polemics.
