(Formerly numbered Music History 172.) Seminar, two hours. Enforced corequisite: attendance, but not enrollment, in course 72 lecture. Introduction to some ways that music has been held to embody, support, and enact sacredness, including experience of god(s), sense of transcendental, work of liturgy, and intersections of music, politics, and religion. Credit for both courses 72 and 172 not allowed. Letter grading.
