<p>Lecture, two hours. Limited to graduate students. Coverage of broad range of topics on both clinical aspects and molecular pathogenesis of bone marrow failure syndromes. Studies provide important paradigms to understand fundamental mechanisms of human disease in addition to normal and abnormal blood cell development. Topics include basic biology and clinical features of aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, Diamond Blackfan Anemia, Schwachman Diamond Syndrome, Fanconi Anemia, Dyskeratosis Congenita, Paroxysmal Nocturia Hemoglobinuria, flow cytometry, and research approaches to study bone marrow failure syndromes. Journal club sessions include discussion of two journal articles per meeting—one clinical and one basic/translational. Students present at least one journal article and lead group discussion. S/U or letter grading.</p>
