Description

Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Recommended preparation: one to two years of college-level Chinese. Introduction to Chinese sound system, writing system and its reform, regional differences, major structural features, language in society and in cultural practices. Concurrently scheduled with course C120. Letter grading.
