<p>Seminar, three hours. Exploration of concepts of neurodiversity and autism through an interdisciplinary lens, critically examining different models of disability through a historical and community-engaged lens. Students engage in dialogue, experiential learning, and reflection to understand the complexities of autism and other neurodivergent identities as forms of human diversity. Students reflect on the implications of various perspectives on policy, practice, and societal inclusion. Analysis of material from psychology, neuroscience, arts, humanities, popular media, anthropology, activism, and critical autism studies. Emphasis on centering neurodivergent voices, engaging students in projects with neurodiversity-affirming Los Angeles Community partner groups, and fostering a deeper understanding of identity, representation, and advocacy.
